Elimination method

a+6b = -1 --------> (1)

a+3b = -4 --------> (2)

To eliminate the a value subtract equation (2) from (1).

a+6b = -1

a+3b = -4

(-) (-)    (+)

________

3b = 3

Divide to each side by 3.

3b/3 = 3/3

b = 1

Substitute the b value in (1).

a+6*1 = -1

a+6 = -1

Subtract 6 from each side.

a+6-6 = -1-6

a = -7

Solutiion of given system is a = -7 ,b = 1.
