A golf ball of mass 0.045 kg is hit off the tee at a speed of 35 m/s . The golf club was in contact with the ball for 3.10×10^−3 s .

A.) Find the impulse imparted to the golf ball.

I got 508.1 N but this seems to be incorrect.

Mass of the golf ball is  image kg.

A golf ball  is hit off the tee at a speed of 35 m/s.

The golf club was in contact with the ball for image s .

(A)

Find the impulse imparted to the golf ball.

Impulse is the change in momentum.

Initially ball is at the rest, thus momentum is zero.

Therefore, final momentum is impulse.

Substitute image and image in the above formula.

Impulse imparted to the golf ball is image kg-m/sec.

(B)

Find the average force exerted on the ball by the golf club.

The golf club was in contact with the ball for image s .

Use impulse formula to determine the force.

From part (A), image.

Substitute image and image in image.

image

Average force exerted on the ball by the golf club is 508 N.
