1) Given first equation 14x-5y = -35

To find y intercept substitute x = 0 in above equation.

-5y = -35

Divide to each side by negitive 5.

y = 7

To find x intercept substitute y = 0 in above equation.

14x = -35

Divide to each side by 14.

x = -35/14

x = -2.5

x intercept is -2.5 y intercept is 7.

2) Given second equation 2x-5y = 25

To find x intercept substitute y = 0 in above equation.

2x = 25

Divide to each side by 2.

x = 25/2 = 12.5

To find y intercept substitute x = 0 in above equation.

-5y = 25

Divide to each side by negitive 5.

y = -5

x intercept is 12.5 y intercept is -5.

  • The intercept form of a line equation is x/a + y/b = 1, where, a is x - intercept,  and b is y - intercept.

    The equation is 14x - 5y = - 35.

    Write the equation in intercept - form.

    14x/( - 35) - 5y/(- 35) = 1

    x/(- 35/14) + y/(- 35/- 5) = 1

    x/(- 5/2) + y/7 = 1.

    Compare the above equation with, intercept form of a line equation.

    x - intercept is - 5/2, and y - intercept is 7.

  • The equation is 2x - 5y = 25.

    Write the equation in intercept - form.

    2x/(25) - 5y/(25) = 1

    x/(25/2) + y/(- 25/5) = 1

    x/(25/2) + y/(- 5) = 1.

    Compare the above equation with, intercept form of a line equation.

    x - intercept is 25/2, and y - intercept is - 5.
