Given

The area of the rectangle is 98 yds square.

The length of a rectangle is twice the width.

Let the width of a rectangle is x .

So the length of a rectangle is 2 x.

The area of the rectangle = length * width.

98 =  2 x  * x

98  =  2 x ^2

98 / 2 = x ^2

49= x ^2

⇒  x ^2 =  49

⇒  x  = √49

⇒  x  =  ± 7.

Measurents is always positive.

So the width of a rectangle is 7 yds.

Therefore the length of a rectangle is 2 x

 = 2 ( 7 ) = 14  yds.

Solution :   The length of a rectangle is 14 yds and

the width of a rectangle is 7 yds.
