Given

The area of the rectangle is 512 yds square.

The length of a rectangle is twice the width.

Let the width of a rectangle is x .

So the length of a rectangle is 2 x.

The area of the rectangle = length * width.

512 =  2 x  * x

512 =  2 x ^2

512 / 2 = x ^2

256 = x ^2

⇒  x ^2 =  256

⇒  x  = √256

⇒  x  =  ± 16.

Measurents is always positive.

So the width of a rectangle is 16 yds.

Therefore the length of a rectangle is 2 x

 = 2 (16) = 32  yds.

Solution :   The length of a rectangle is 32  yds and

the width of a rectangle is 16 yds.
